Hostels Accommodation in NYC
There used to be many hostels in New York City. Still, the hotel lobby convinced the city to use an old law intended to block tenements and limit the number of people who could stay in a single room. Except for a handful that was grandfathered in, this essentially closed down the majority of the hostels in town.
There are now only a few hostels remaining.
Even if there aren’t hundreds of hostels to select from, there are enough to warrant an article titled “best hostels in NYC,” so you’ll know which are worth staying at (there are a few that are really terrible and to be avoided).
I’ve stayed in dozens upon dozens of places throughout the years. When choosing a hostel, there are several factors to consider. The top four choices for the best hostel in New York City are:
- Location – New York is massive, and getting around can take some time. Choose a location close to the attractions and nightlife you wish to see. All of the hostels on this list are in convenient locations.
- Price – In NYC, you definitely get what you pay for, so if you go with the cheapest option, you’re likely to receive a small, crowded hostel with poor service.
- Amenities – Every hostel in the city provides free Wi-Fi, and some provide a complimentary breakfast, but if you want more, do your research to find the hostel that best meets your needs!
- Staff – All of the hostels on our list have fantastic staff! They are quite kind and educated. Even if you don’t stay at one of the places listed below, read reviews to ensure you end up somewhere where the staff is helpful and friendly! They have the power to create or ruin a hostel!
To help you plan your vacation, I’ve compiled a list of my favourite hostels in New York City. If you don’t want to read the entire list, the hostels listed below are the best in each category.
